The Vipers are pleased to announce Joe Haggerty as the 2013-GOLD Coach for the 2026-27 season.
Joe was born and raised in Stoneham and played football and baseball as a youth, but grew up all around the sport of hockey with a deep family history in the sport. His passion for hockey led him to a 20-plus year career as a sportswriter covering the NHL and NCAA Hockey for the Woburn Daily Times, Boston Metro, WEEI.com, NBC Sports Boston, Boston Hockey Now and currently for the Boston Sports Journal.
Haggerty has been a hockey coach with Newton Youth Hockey at all levels from Learn to Play to Peewee travel hockey, and helped lead his teams to VHL championships in 2023 and 2024. Haggerty is currently Level 4 certified with USA Hockey. Haggerty also coached club hockey during the 2022-23 season in the E9 for the Greater Boston Junior Bruins as an assistant coach. He also coaches the South Middlesex Coyotes in the New England Future Stars summer league where his Coyotes team won a Silver Cup championship in 2024. His coaching method is focused on player development, fundamentals, discipline, teamwork and having fun while at the same time building a winning culture within the group.
Haggerty also coaches baseball in the Newton Little League program dating back to 2019.
Haggerty has lived in Newton with his wife Alyssa for the last 15 years with their hockey playing kids, Finnegan (12) and Zoe (10).
