JOE HAGGERTY - 2013 SELECT COACH / 13 SELECT - HAGGERTY

The Vipers are pleased to announce Joe Haggerty as the 2013 SELECT Coach for the 2026-27 season.

Joe was born and raised in Stoneham and played football and baseball as a youth, but grew up all around the sport of hockey with a deep family history in the sport. His passion for hockey led him to a 20-plus year career as a sportswriter covering the NHL and NCAA Hockey for the Woburn Daily Times, Boston Metro, WEEI.com, NBC Sports Boston, Boston Hockey Now and currently for the Boston Sports Journal.

Haggerty has been a hockey coach with Newton Youth Hockey at all levels from Learn to Play to Peewee travel hockey, and helped lead his teams to VHL championships in 2023 and 2024. Haggerty is currently Level 4 certified with USA Hockey. Haggerty also coached club hockey during the 2022-23 season in the E9 for the Greater Boston Junior Bruins as an assistant coach. He also coaches the South Middlesex Coyotes in the New England Future Stars summer league where his Coyotes team won a Silver Cup championship in 2024. His coaching method is focused on player development, fundamentals, discipline, teamwork and having fun while at the same time building a winning culture within the group.

Haggerty also coaches baseball in the Newton Little League program dating back to 2019.

Haggerty has lived in Newton with his wife Alyssa for the last 15 years with their hockey playing kids, Finnegan (12) and Zoe (10).

MATT McCARTHY - 2017 PLATINUM COACH / 17 TIER 1

The Vipers are pleased to announce Matt McCarthy as the 2017 Platinum Head Coach for the 2026-27 season.

Matt grew up in Medifeld, MA and attended the Rivers School and Tabor Academy. He continued his hockey journey at Tufts University before persuing pro hockey in Europe for three years. Today Matt resides in Marblehead with his wife Lindsey, and their children Bowen, Luca, and Maison.

2025-26 Season Begins

The 2025-26 season has beegun.

The practice and game schedule went live last week on the website.

This years Boot Camp starts Monday 8/18 and is spread over two weeks. Please check your team page for your schedule.

Equipment & Apparel Fitting - May 8th

Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 12:00PM

The Vipers annual equipment and apparel fitting will be held on Thursday May 8th. Specific team schedule is listed below. Please try to attend at your specified time. 5/8/25 is the only fitting date. Items will arrive prior to Bootcamp in August.

ATTENDANCE: All 2025-26 players are required to attend. Please bring your knee pads and shoulder pads for proper jersey and socks sizing.

GAME JERSEYS/SOCKS: The Vipers game jerseys will be on hand for proper sizing. (Game jerseys are the long lead time item. To ensure arrival prior to the season, the order will be placed at the fitting.)

RETURNING PLAYERS:

Returning players must be fit for new game socks. Game Socks can be ordered on the Vipers webstore.
If your jereys fit, you do not need to re-order jerseys. Please doublecheck your Jersey size and make sure they'll fit in the Fall '25.

APPAREL: We are happy to offer a whole new apparel offering featuring CCM, iSlides, & Bauer. This year the Vipers have added a variety of new apparel options. TSR will be showing all of the new apparel options and equipment. Orders will be finalized at the fitting or the online store which will be open for a limited time during the apparel fittings.

EQUIPMENT: This year the Vipers are offering a custom Vipers pant shell. All Vipers players are required to wear SOLID BLACK gloves, pants, and helmets next season. SOLID BLACK ONLY. You are welcome to purchase equipment from any manufacturer. The Vipers have partnered with TSR to offer discounted prices on equipment and apparel. TSR will have experts on site to answer questions and properly fit each player.
