Sunday, November 14, 2010, 12:00AM

The 97 Vipers once again continued the traditional slow start when playing the Rangers on Sunday afternoon. Quickly the Rangers took advantage by scoring on the power play and than again within minutes to jump out to an early 2-0 lead after 1 period. After finally recognizing that physical play can quickly change momentum the Vipers players Hickey, Bernis, Somerville, Powers and Henderson started pounding the Rangers with some clean solid body checks which quickly made an impact on the Rangers. Having taken over the momentum Jack Hickey capitalized with 2 goals from the heady passing of Kyle Morrill to tie the game and take control leading into the 3rd period.  After exchanging some great scoring chances on both ends of the ice, Vipers goalie  Ryan Borders stay in control and stopped 2 clean breakaways off turnovers and finally  the Rangers were able to slip one by on a loose puck in the crease to take a 3-2 lead with 3 minutes to play.  The Vipers gained composure and showed that they were not going to be denied and continued the aggressive pursuit by physical play , forcing turnovers and going to the net strong with quality shots and chasing rebounds. Finally, with 30 seconds remaining Matt Henderson was able to pick pocket the defenseman and slide a quick pass over to Somerville on the post which he was able to transfer to his back hand and beat the goalie clean to tie the game at 3-3. On the face off with seconds to play again the Vipers were able to apply continued pressure with 3 strong shots from Morrill but had to be satisfied with the tie. The next test for these two teams will be Sunday 11/21 as it is sure to be another battle!
