02Vipers Beat Raiders, 5-4

Monday, January 16, 2012, 6:05PM

It was a slow start for the Vipers at the Top Gun Invitational Tournament. The North Shore Raiders scored 2 goals in the 1st period and scored a 3rd goal in the 1st ½ of the 2nd period.  It appeared that the Raiders were out skating and out playing the Vipers on the Olympic sized rink.  With 7min left of the 2nd period, the Roberts, Senier, Calautti line skated as if they had enough of the Raiders.  It was a 3 on 2 situation and they were passing the puck 1st from Caluitti then to Senier. Senier made a beautiful pass to Roberts in front of the net. He then slammed the puck in the left corner putting the Vipers on the scoreboard and creating positive momentum among their teammates.  The next line set up a similar play.  Defensemen Ouellette passed the puck up the ice to Alyward who skated down the left side of   ice. Perry received the pass and shot the puck into the right corner for the 2nd goal of the game.  1 minute later Senier passed back to Haggerty. Haggerty went for the shot and Caluitti tapped it in.  The score was tied up at 3-3.  The Vipers pulled ahead within minutes of the 3rd period when Marshall made a rocket slap shot and Alyward tipped the puck right over the goaltenders right shoulder.  Both teams were playing hard at this point.  1:35 seconds left the Raiders tied it up after they gained control of the puck.  It appeared that this game was going to be a tie.  But Roberts took control of the faceoff Senier brought the puck down.  All the Vipers were in position.  Senier passed to Roberts.  It seemed like seconds as he carefully determined placement…slammed the puck and GOAL!   Vipers get the win.
